Biology Jobs - Research Technician Division of Development Biology

Reference: IRC65007
Salary: ?21,565 ? ?24,547

Project Title: Patterning, growth and apoptosis in developing epithelia

A research technician position is available in the lab of JP Vincent at the National Institute for Medical Research. The lab investigates fundamental aspects of epithelial biology that have relevance to cancer, using Drosophila as a model system. We combine cutting edge genomic engineering with the latest techniques of imaging and cell biology to study the processes that regulate the spread and activities of morphogens. In a distinct but related strand of work, we are exploring the homeostatic mechanisms ensuring that weak or mispecified cells are eliminated from epithelia.

The baseline duties will include generating cell lines, testing antibodies, and maintaining our collection of fly strains. Therefore, experience in cell culture, basic protein biochemistry and molecular biology will be an asset. Enthusiasm, reliability and organisational skills will be essential. In addition to the baseline duties, the successful applicant will be expected to support (and become engaged in) specific projects on an as-needed basis. The group, which currently comprises 11 scientists, is embedded in the National Institute for Medical Research in North London. The Institute provides excellent training for researchers in a multi-disciplinary environment and is equipped with state of the art facilities.
