US tourist dies while diving in Cayman Islands

Police in the Cayman Islands say a 47-year-old U.S. tourist has died while scuba diving off popular North West Point in Grand Cayman.

Police said in a statement that the woman lost consciousness while ascending following a dive at Little Tunnels reef on Friday. They said employees with the Red Sails Sports diving company tried to resuscitate her as they brought her to shore.

The woman was taken to Cayman Islands Hospital in George Town where she was declared dead. The investigation is ongoing.

Police did not identify the woman nor release her hometown.

Authorities did not return calls for comment on Saturday.
