Chi Lin Vegetarian Restaurant Nan Lian Garden Hong Kong ...

Chi Lin Vegetarian Restaurant (60, Fung Tak Road, Diamond Hill, Kowloon, Hong Kong) situated inside the amazing Nan Lian Garden is perhaps Hong Kong's best vegetarian restaurant. The quality and variety of food served here is simply world class. No wonder, the restaurant gets filled to capacity even during weekdays. Its open for lunch and dinner everyday but afternoon tea is served only on Saturday, Sunday, and public holidays. Lunch is served from 12.00 - 14.30 Monday to Friday and from 11.30 - 15.00 on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays. Dinner is served everyday from 18.00 - 21.00 (last order taken at 20.30) and afternoon tea timings are 15.00 - 17.30. There is a minimum order requirement for service which in case of dinner is 120 HKD per person. Reservations are taken on phone (phone number 3658-9388). Net proceeds from the restaurant are used to finance the management and conservation of Nan Lian Garden. (Read about food & prices, and see pictures below...)

My friend and I went as walk-in guests but luckily got a table for dinner within five minutes. That was the last vacant table. There were some large groups inside enjoying the Banquet options (Set Meals) which are available for 4, 8, 10, or 12 persons at 780, 2360, 2600, and 3900 HKD respectively. These set meals include starters, drinks, main course, and desserts. The most impressive set meal option according to me is their Wild Mushrooms Set (320 HKD per person - minimum two orders) that includes Beetroot Salad, Marinated Fresh Seaweed, Assorted Mushroom Soup, Bimba-Fruit Morel Mushrooms with Yellow Porcini and Beancurd Casserole, Deep Fried Monkey Head Mushrooms in Mustard Sauce, Braised Fresh Shiitake Mushrooms in Red Yeast Rice Sauce, Braised Seasonal Greens in Mushroom Sauce Broth, Seasonal Mushrooms in Five-Spice Mushroom Sauce, Cashew Nuts and Beach Raisin Sweet Soup, and fruits. I don't know of another place that serves a meal like this. Its expensive no doubt, but rightfully so. There are value meal options too like the Four Seasons Blessings (Soup of the day, Set of Four Vegetarian Dishes, and Rice) at 98 HKD per person available for Lunch only and the Five Fortune Blessings (Soup, Five Vegetarian Dishes, and Rice) at 120 HKD per person available during lunch hours everyday and for dinner on Saturday, Sunday, and public holidays. An a'la carte meal can be ordered comfortably within the minimum 120 HKD per person requirement.??

Our Meal

My friend wanted to try less adventurous food so we stuck to a Mixed Vegetable Casserole with Tortillas, Vegetable & Cheese Spring Rolls, Vegetable Filled Steamed Buns, and an Australian Ginger Drink.
?

Our total bill was around 250 HKD. It was a very heavy but very tasty meal. We finished everything except a bit of the casserole. The preparations seemed to have been adjusted to appeal to international guests. It was perhaps not the real Chinese food but we loved what we ate. I have decided to have a meal at Chi Lin Vegetarian during each of my future trips to Hong Kong.
